Dice the bread into 1-inch pieces and place in large, nonstick oven-safe skillet. If using Brioche bread, simply break the bread apart in chunks
Make the custard—In a large bowl, whisk together milk, Crackd® The No-Egg-Egg®, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until evenly combined.
Assemble the French toast—Pour custard over bread in skillet. Fold and lightly stir to ensure that all bread is coated with custard.
Bake the French toast—Transfer skillet to preheated oven and bake until toast is golden brown and set in the middle, about 30-35 minutes. Let toast cool in skillet for about 5 minutes, then sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup for drizzling.
Top French toast with berries, for example strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. Other suggestions for toppings is the zest of half an orange, slivered almonds, and garnish with mint leaves.
TIPS:
Drier bread works like a sponge to absorb all the custardy good stuff, so best to use a bread that’s a few days old.
Use whatever fruit is available and in season and is your favorite—peaches, blackberries, etc.
We prefer to have fresh fruit at the top, however if you prefer to have the fruit warmed and melted in, add the fruit to the custard before putting it in the oven.
